				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last Saturday, May 11th, <strong>Live At The Pagoda</strong> hosted a new series called <strong>Jazz Beyond</strong> in collaboration with <a href="http://www.sanjosejazz.org"><strong>San Jose Jazz</strong></a>.  An offshoot of the Jazz Beyond Stage that takes place at their Summer Jazz Fest annually. For our first guest we welcomed pioneering Jazz &#8211; NuJazz vet <a href="http://www.markdeclivelowe.net/"><strong>Mark de Clive-Lowe</strong></a> and his <strong>Remix Trio</strong> consisting of Mark de Clive_Lowe on piano, <strong>Dexter Story</strong> on drums, and<strong> Tim Lefebvre</strong> on bass.  The performance was tremendous and grinding to the soul, as Mark and the trio dropped a 90 min set on the Pagoda audience&#8230;see for yourself with these wonderful shots by <a href="http://photos.metroactive.com/Live-Music/Mark-de-Clive-Lowe-Remix-Trio/29383500_nzpdR9#!i=2507750857&amp;k=9bRGS4f"><strong>Metro Newspapers/MetroActive</strong></a> photographer <strong>Aron Cooperman</strong>.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>San Diego&#8217;s <a href="http://www.thebsideplayers.com/"><strong>B-Side Players</strong></a> was a common occurrence in San Jose in the late 90&#8242;s through to 2005-ish.  At some point they lost their way to San Jose, or San Jose lost it soul, and bands like the B-Side Players didn&#8217;t have a home to do their thing.  Enter the Pagoda&#8217;s soul-saving room and our love for boundary bashing bands like these guys.  A self describe sound that encompasses Afro-Mexica, Reggae, Cumbia, Boogaloo, and Latin Soul this band sets to accomplish one unifying thing and that&#8217;s to get your groove on.  Good music lovers, and especially those of the live kind, look no further than Live At The Pagoda on Saturday night.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Wednesday, March 13</strong> the 2013 Live At The Pagoda Winter Music Concert Series features Malaysian singer-songwriter <strong><a href="http://www.faderlabel.com/artists/yuna/" rel="wp-prettyPhoto[g1136]">Yuna</a>.  Yuna </strong>was first inspired by the universal appeal of acts like No Doubt, The Cranberries, and Fiona Apple. At the age of 19, while in law school, she picked up a guitar and began to fervently write. She released her self-titled EP in Malaysia in 2008. The single “Deeper Conversation” became a massive success and went on to win the title of Best English Song at the 2009 AIM Awards, Malaysia’s national music awards. Yuna swept the ceremony, garnering Best Pop Song and Song of the Year for her Malay song, “Dan Sebenarnya”.  She has now come stateside to take her career to the next level.  Having signed to <a href="http://www.faderlabel.com/" rel="wp-prettyPhoto[g1136]"><strong>Fader Label</strong></a> through the support of her management Indie-Pop.  Yuna released her U.S. debut self-titled album last April.  Her lead single off that album, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RSXJUG8Sa0" rel="wp-prettyPhoto[g1136]""><em><strong>Live Your Life</strong></em></a> is produced by GRAMMY award winning <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharrell_Williams"><strong>Pharrell Williams</strong></a> of Neptunes fame.  SF-SJ based <strong>DJ ThatGirl</strong> supports&#8230;click on the image below to purchase tickets for this Bay Area exclusive performance Live At The Pagoda</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If anything The Pagoda has embraced musically in it&#8217;s short life span is electronic music.  Though a varied, and much much more of a deeper, genre than it has ever been.  Enter the three artists who hit the Pagoda stage tomorrow night, Saturday, November 17th, all have mastered each of their own brand of musical production infused with ingredients of Funk, Soul, Jazz, and Bass.  Two of them, B. Bravo &amp; Teeko form two fourths of their group <a href="http://pitchfork.com/tv/yours-truly/1888-b-bravo-the-starship-connection/">Starship Connection</a>.  <a href="http://http://fritenite.spinshop.com/">We will be celebrating the release of the Starship Connection E.P. which is currently available on Frite Nite.</a></p>

<p>Teeko and B.Lewis have both rocked The Pagoda stage before.  Teeko for the 2011 &#8220;After Hours&#8221; showcase at the San Jose Jazz Fest that Summer.  And B.Lewis first appeared with us on the Sonnymoon bill back in June with Stones Throw artist Jonti, and Devan Who.  That show garnered a cover opp and story in the Metro.</p>

<p>France’s own Jean-Luc Ponty has been at the forefront of jazz violin for decades.  He has singlehandedly brought the electric violin and the European tradition of great jazz-violin playing to the U.S. Ponty met Danish violinist Mads Tolling at Berklee College of Music and recommended Mads to Stanley Clarke, where Mads has been a five-year member in the Stanley Clarke Band.</p>
<p>Tolling and Ponty remain in contact with a mutual goal: The Evolution Of The Violin In Modern Music.</p>
<p><strong>The Mads Tolling Quartet</strong> will present a musical journey in jazz, jazz fusion and progressive rock. This tribute to Jean-Luc Ponty will include fresh takes on Ponty’s recordings from Enigmatic Ocean to Imaginary Voyage.</p>

<p>In October of 2010 the collaborative efforts of <strong>Universal Grammar</strong> &amp; <strong>New Sense</strong> lead them to The Pagoda at The Fairmont Hotel.  On October 16th, 2010 it was with <strong>DJ Sake One</strong> and New Zealand based electro-jazz-soul trio <strong>Electric Wire Hustle</strong>, and then again on October 21st, 2010 with the soul sounds of <strong>Bilal </strong>the <strong>Live At The Pagoda Music Series</strong> was born and with it the developing of a D.I.Y. live music venue that has since hosted performances by Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Little Dragon</strong>, <strong>The Robert Glasper Experiment</strong>, <strong>Talib Kweli</strong>, <strong>Jose James</strong>, <strong>Chile&#8217;s Anita Tijoux</strong>, and DJ sets by the legendary <strong>Kenny Dope</strong>, Belgium&#8217;s <strong>LeFtO</strong>, Brazil&#8217;s <strong>DJ Nuts</strong>, &amp; Mexico&#8217;s <strong>Mexican Institute of Sound </strong>(just to name a few).  Since it&#8217;s inception The Pagoda has transcended genres and borders, truly becoming an International music haven &#8212; a &#8220;global groove center&#8221;.</p>
